Today is the fourth anniversary of me starting this long and crazy journey. I've been to every Canadian province and to each of their capital cities. I've struck out and I've struck it rich. I've had run-ins with the police, by law-enforcement, and all sorts of sketchy people. I've made friends in unlikely places and I've made homes out of towns nobody's heard of. And I recorded it all in this blog.

But now, I think it's time for the blog to be retired.

The truth is, I'm not a cowboy anymore. I'm not roving from town to town, seeing how much gas money I can scrape up before I get kicked out. I'm not getting harassed in Medicine Hat and I'm not pushing my legal limits in Banff. Hell, I'm not even experimenting anymore with the times I busk or the seed money I use. I'm less of a galavanting troubadour and more like a regular business owner.  Because of that, it's pretty strange to be just broadcasting my income, especially now that I have someone I occasionally split the winnings with.  So I'm calling it off, and what better day to stop the Daily Blog than on the anniversary of when I started it?   I won't go completely silent though, if anything crazy happens or I just need a place to share my thoughts, I know where I can write it all down.

Thank you all so much for keeping up with me in this way, it was a pleasure to have you along for this journey up to now.

Until next time

Day 666-Am Baile Mòr

pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 2:30-4:00

earned: $38.00

It's Highland games week here in Antigonish. Apparently it's the longest running event of its kind outside of Scotland. I don't think there are any sports until Friday, but they've already started some community events. Tomorrow there are three things that I want to check out. There's a Ceilidh in the evening, a big karaoke thing after that, and most importantly, there's a street festival from 10 o'clock to 3 o'clock. Opportunities like this don't come around super often, so Sadie and I are going to see what kind of trouble we can cause.

Day 665-Me Manque

Pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 3:00-4:00

earned: $57.95

You know me, every chance I get I like to say that I hate big cities. But when I was dropping Laura off this weekend, my thoughts weren't 'This place is frustrating to drive-in, I want to leave,' like they usually are. I was thinking 'This vacation was nice, but I just want to go back to Antigonish.' I was only gone for a couple of days, but I genuinely missed this place.

Day 662-One Hundred and Fifty

Pitch: Antigonish Farmer's Market

time: 8:30-1:00*

earned: $138.00*

I just had an amazing weekend.

To kick off Canada Day, Sadie and I rocked the market.  We handled our breaks pretty well, my voice wasn't even all that tired by the end of the four and a halfhours. There were children dancing, vendors giving us food, all we could have hoped for from a farmers market. Afterward when we were all eating, Laura said she's never seen me look so happy, so blissful. And she's one of the only two people who was with me when I finally made it to Newfoundland last year. It makes sense though, I've never done something I love as much as busking for so long in a day and so successfully, while also being able to share the experience with my friends both on and off the stage.

The rest of the day and the weekend was great too.  Laura is just a good person to road trip with, to talk with in the car and to share turns on the aux chord.  Out of all of my friends, I don't think any of them would have appreciated being in Charlottetown for Canada's 150th as much as her, and she says the same thing about me.

The 2017 Canada Day weekend has been one of the best weekends of my life.

Day 660-No Rest For The Wicked

pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 2:30-4:30*

earned: $84.45*

I've got a pretty wild weekend ahead of me. Tonight I'm driving to Halifax to pick up Laura, and tomorrow we'll go back to the Nish. I'll do some busking that afternoon and will both hit up a bar that evening. Saturday is an early morning to get to the farmers market and then when that's over Laura and I will pretty much immediately be off the Charlottetown, PEI for their Canada Day celebrations. I'm going to be exhausted by the end of, but it's totally going to be worth it.

Day 659- preparations

Pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 2:30-4:30

earned: $103.90

Oh boy oh boy, the weekend is coming people know it. The number of cars in the parking lot is basically how I tell how busy it is, and today it was packed for as long as I was watching it. These next few days are really going to be something.

Day 658-Nervous Making

Pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 3:00-4:30

earned: $59.90

I don't know if starting a bit later really matters as much as I thought it did. Starting little while just seems to be slow in general. It makes me nervous when I've been playing for aver half and hour and my case is still pretty empty.  This job is about getting seen by people who want to give you money and, apparently, waiting for them to finish their grocery shopping so they can give you that money.

Day 657-Relay Clip

Pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 3:00-4:30

earned: $35.15

The money wasn't great today, but hey, somebody gave me one of those sample bottles of vodka, so I'm still chalking this one up as a win.

Day 656-Regulars

Pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 2:30-4:00

earned: $40.20

There's a good handful of regulars that I see all the time. So I'm about once a week, but some pretty much every day. I'm going to see that more often than not, the tip me when they see me.  I have a personal policy to always give something to any busker I pass, but if I saw the same one multiple times a week, I just don't know if I would. The situation has never come up for me.

Day 655-Flyby

Pitch: Antigonish nslc

time: 3:00-4:30*

earned: $71.90*

Time has been flying by. It's been almost 2 whole months since I have left Saskatchewan. Now there's only one week before the farmers market gig. If today is any indication, we are ready, at least in terms of our quality of performance. Sadie is gunning for having us there for the whole four and a half hour market, which is a crazy amount of time to be performing for.  We'll have to figure out some system of switching out to give ourselves a couple breaks or we are going to be exhausted by the time the crowds show up. I think we're going to do really well though, and I think it's going to be so much fun.
